PRESENTATION
Developing a Hydroxyapatite Ink for DLP 3D Printing: Lessons Learned by a Leading Hydroxyapatite (HA) Manufacturer
TIME: Thursday, May 8, 4:30 - 5:00 PM
LOCATION: Prince of Wales
Hydroxyapatite and other calcium phosphates have long been used in the medical device industry for orthopedic, spinal, and dental applications due to their ability to bond with bone and promote new bone growth. However, the 3D printing of these materials for medical devices remains nascent compared to the widespread adoption of additive manufacturing in metal implants. This presentation will address the key challenges in advancing bioceramics additive manufacturing, particularly the limited availability of suitable inks for GMP production. Drawing on 30 years of experience, we have developed new ink formulations tailored for DLP printing, focusing on critical factors such as particle size, distribution, surface area, and morphology. Additionally, we will discuss lessons learned from production experiences concerning thermal processing, process control, and quality assurance.Esther Valliant, PhD, Himed
