PRESENTATION
From Surface to Success: Bioactive Breakthroughs in Implant Technology
TIME: Tuesday, May 20, 11:30 - 12:15 AM
LOCATION: MedTech Stage
The introduction of additive manufacturing in the medical and orthopedic sectors has significantly enhanced device complexity and performance, providing tailored solutions for patients. Despite advancements in 3D print resolution, post-processing remains essential for eliminating surface imperfections. One effective method for improving surface quality is the use of resorbable hydroxyapatite blast media, which enhances the aesthetic and functional aspects of devices while promoting better osseointegration through the creation of micropits. Hydroxyapatite plasma spray coatings also mimic natural bone minerals, fostering a stronger bond between implants and bone tissue, thus improving stability and longevity. A series of case studies will be reviewed, showcasing successful collaborations that demonstrate the promising impact of surface engineering in implant technology.
